Stupid and silly ironies
I once was on a train, and a woman was speaking to the conductor. She asked him a question about the fares, and he was thinking about how he would reply. She asked him another question while he was thinking about the first one, and he said, “Hold on…I’ve just lost my train of thought.” I couldn’t help but think, “Aren’t trains always on your thoughts?”
Today in my Atheism, Theism, and Existentialism class (religion/philosophy), the professor was writing some things on the board about Descartes’s Meditations. The list was numbered through 15, but number 11 was missing. She clearly had just forgotten to write it, in her hurry, but it made me wonder…”Was there ever a number 11? Maybe it never existed. How do we know it ever did exist? Is it real? What is ‘real’? Am I certain of a number 11? What am ‘I’? How can I know I am real?”
